Personal Development Information

At Mortimer we aim to help pupils to build their confidence, resilience and self-esteem so they are able to leave the school as well-rounded members of the community and citizens.

There are six key areas of development that are interrelated and cumulatively contribute to the sum of a student’s development: 

  • Personal Development 
  • Social Development, including political and current affairs awareness 
  • Physical Development 
  • Spiritual Development 
  • Moral Development 
  • Cultural development 

In addition, Personal Development is made up of many strands of familiar subject areas including: 

  • Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)  
  • Citizenship  
  • Relationships & Sex Education 
  • Careers 
  • Wellness & Wellbeing 
  • British Values  

  • To create an ambitious programme of Personal Development at Mortimer encompassing PSHE & RSHE, enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities.
  • Students will be aware of and embed British Values through a values-driven curriculum.
  • This programme will develop students into responsible, respectful and active citizens.
  • Through this programme, an environment of equal opportunity and inclusivity will be promoted.
  • Students’ character will develop, giving them the qualities, they need to flourish in society.
  • Students will develop confidence and resilience, learning how to keep themselves healthy physically and mentally.
  • Students will be prepared for their next phases of their education and for the realities of adult life.

KS4 PD sessions and PSHE lessons ensure full coverage of statutory requirements of RSHE, British Values and SMSC and beyond, offering opportunities for safe space discussions and exploration of challenging topics.

As a results, students are confident and comfortable in understanding a broad range of issues and are prepared for the challenges of adult life

An ambitious and broad range of opportunities delivered through a broad and intelligently planned curriculum, alongside a strong combination of whole school events, educational trips & visits, guest speakers and international travel.

Students enjoy a range of experiences that will drive their passion and inspire innovation. There are many opportunities for students to develop leadership skills through the broad range of experiences offered.
